A very pleasant sunny week in the 80s in store…Summer never really left LA, did it? This week, Subsuelo is getting funky on Wednesday with our good friend Luis Narino’s band, Noble Creatures, in the house and the Funky Sole DJs! Enjoy the warm weather while it lasts, folks! Because all good things come to an end and that includes the last Bodega for the year! So come out this Sunday and go out with a bang with Cut Chemist on the decks!
Peace Over Violence (formerly Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women) is a nonprofit that has was one of the first of its kind in the country formed in 1971 to prevent violence against women. In their 42 years, they’ve expanded their mission to preventing all forms of violence and protecting all victims of violence, and this Friday, August 9, Peace Over Violence will graduate a class of 21 youth leaders dedicated towards violence prevention in our communities. Looks like East LA artivists Las Cafeteras have a real treat in store with their next music video with elaborate costumes & storyline befitting their enchanting song Luna Lovers. At their live performances, while their rousing anthem, La Bamba Rebelde, gets audiences jumping on their feet, Luna Lovers is a sweet ballad that has crowds swooning and I can’t wait to see it. Subsuelo just got done celebrating their 2nd anniversary last month and within the last year, they’ve quickly grown from an underground monthly event in a small intimate bar in Boyle Heights to throwing big special events with partners like Mad Decent and Nickodemus. The Subsuelo crew have a quickly growing, glowing reputation for collaborating with other great artists to create something genre-defying and with such a unique blend of world-crossing music all in one night, it’s no wonder they seem to be everywhere in LA these days! If you thought 3 Subsuelo parties in one month was intense — can you handle THREE+ of THEM…this WEEK?!? (Why the +? Keep reading….)
That’s right, gente! Remezcla is kicking off RemezcLab, “an in-house Latin culture incubator, a testing-ground for new ideas, voices, and creations” and they’re featuring 3 innovators of the Latin culture scene together in one spectacular night! It’s free with Chivas providing free drinks so RSVP now before May 13!
