Kara Mack @The Talking Stick – Sat. 9/28: Kara Mack will be back at the Talking Stick…and now featuring songs from her debut album “A Negroe’s Spiritual”. Put on your dancing shoes and be ready to get down to this amazing new project that Kara has finally released everywhere online! For the past 10 years, Kara Mack has immersed herself in the African Diaspora; going to the sources of each to study the music, dance, and culture individually. She even traveled to Guinea, West Africa in 2007 and studied during a time when the country declared martial law. It was during this time as well that Kara began to see the connections between every style and how important it was for the people who love such cultures to see the similarities as well. So sitting one night under the stars in Guinea, West Africa, she knew her first album would be called “A Negroe’s Spiritual”. A play off of the style that is the foundation of American music and the heart of her Southern roots, “A Negroe’s Spiritual” is a testimony of Kara’s life and a musical bridge connecting all African styles from around the world.

Subsuelo’s DJ Gozar premieres Poly Ritmo 2 Mix & Upcoming Global Bass Parties in LA

Photo by Farah Sosa(Update 8/8/13: Subsuelo at RG Club on Thur 8/8 is canceled but you can still catch them earlier at Grand Park!)
How do I get through hump day Wednesday? I dance. And the music I love dancing to is Global Bass, the border and genre crossing dance music, heavy with tropical rhythms and electronic beats, flavored with sounds from a global musical palette. Here in LA, no one does global bass better than the Subsuelo collective, known for throwing some of the best underground dance parties and LA-native, DJ Gozar, aka Josh Weiss, is one of its maestro taste-makers. Enjoy his latest mix Poly Ritmo 2, which takes you on a musical world journey exploring Afro-Latin rhythms from Brazil, Colombia and Peru, to Angola and Kenya in the motherland of Africa. DJ Gozar has selected fabulous remixes by Daniel Haaksman, Uproot Andy, Captain Planet, Geko Jones and Atropolis and if nearly an hour of non-stop booty-shaking isn’t enough for you, come shake it some more at these upcoming Subsuelo and global bass events in LA:

DJ Potira Spins Infectious Booty-Shakin Baile Funk all over LA! Every Sunday and this week at Afro Funke and Bombilla!

(Update 8/7/13: Brasilia Sundays is on hiatus until a new location.)
One of my favorite DJs in Los Angeles by way of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is DJ Potira! She earned the nickname Potira which means “Warrior Indian Girl” through her dedicated practice and teaching of capoeira, the Brazilian martial art, and believe me…the title is well-earned! Not only does she kick ass on the mat, Potira brings the same feisty fierceness to the dance floor with her signature Baile Funk booty-shaking beats!
