Doors to Russian Cinema 2013: The Thirst / The Role @ Aero Theater, Santa Monica – 7:30pm, $7-$11, All Ages
The Thirst: The conflict in Chechnya scarred many soldiers both physically and emotionally; Kostya (Mikhail Grubov) is one of these. He lives alone, drawing pictures and drinking vodka – until a friend from the war disappears, pulling Kostya back into society.  The Role: The first film in six years from writer-director Konstantin Lopushansky was a Best Film nominee at the Moscow International Film Festival. In 1919, a chance encounter with a revolutionary fighter inspires an actor (Maksim Sukhanov) to take on the role of a lifetime and impersonate the man, following his path even as it leads to tragedy.
