First Fridays “Day of the Dead” @ Long Beach – 6:30pm-9:30pm, Free, All Ages
Autumn has arrived and the shift from summer to winter has begun. With the change in season comes the time for us to honor those who have passed with First Fridays 2nd Annual Day of the Dead celebration. The night will be filled with traditional, and not so traditional, festivities. Local favorites mexico68 and Martin Espino’s Sounds of Ancient Mexico will bring their blend of traditional and contemporary music to the streets of Atlantic. The local businesses are encouraged to create altars to celebrate loved ones who have passed. Please bring offerings and mementos to our community altar at the BKBIA office. Other highlights include Day of the Dead arts activities, calaca face painting, dancers, live art and interactive art installations, marigolds, incense, and plenty of the unexpected. DAY OF THE DEAD DRESS IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED!

El Fieston de las Calaveras @ LA Theatre Academy – 7pm, $10-$15, All Ages
One performance only NOVEMBER 1ST at 7 PM Starring: Azalia Correa, Humberto Amor, Jesus Schettino, Alejandra Flores, Leily Sanchez, Efrain Munoz.  Four hilarious skeletons speaking Spanish and making even the non Spanish speakers laugh. Come see it to believe it! This is our traditional celebration for the Day Of The Dead with all the respect and beauty of the traditional rhyming of the “calaveras” (a traditional poem that describes the person’s real nature.

Guadalajara International Film Festival @ Egyptian Theater, Hollywood – 7:30pm, $30 opening night, All Ages
This year marks the 3rd annual FICG in LA, a feature film showcase presenting the best of Mexican and Ibero-American cinema from the Guadalajara International Film Festival. FICG in LA is a joint cultural endeavor created through a partnership between the Guadalajara International Film Festival, The University of Guadalajara, the University of Guadalajara Foundation/USA, and the Consulate General of Mexico. All proceeds from this event will be donated to help the recent flood victims in Mexico.

Doors to Russian Cinema 2013: Legend of No. 17 @ Aero Theater, Santa Monica – 7:30pm, $7-$11, All Ages
This rousing biopic stars Danila Kozlovsky as Russian ice hockey player Valeri Kharlamov, widely considered one of the greatest in the game’s history. In true ROCKY fashion, Kharlamov rises under the mentorship of a hard-bitten coach (Oleg Menshikov) to lead his team in an epic 1972 Soviet-Canadian showdown.

    • We do too! We were really bummed their last show in LA sold out so quickly so we’re def not missing this one, especially since it’s put on my our friends at theLift like Jeremy Sole!
