BABE’S AND RICKY’S INN – Director Ramin Niami In Person + Reception & Live Performance! @ Egyptian Theater, Hollywood – 7:30PM, $7-$11, All Ages
My friends’ labor of love documentary the life of an incredible woman Mama Laura and her legendary blues club that would play host to so many talented musicians…a cherished piece of LA history. For more than half a century, the center of the blues in Los Angeles was Babe’s and Ricky’s Inn, a small South Central club whose stage was graced by stars and hopefuls alike. Before the storied venue closed its doors in 2010, filmmaker Ramin Niami brought his cameras in to capture stunning performances and interviews from the likes of Guitar Shorty, Barbara Morrison, Keb’ Mo’ and songwriting great Mike Stoller. This lively documentary pays loving tribute to the Inn’s late founder, Mississippi-born “Mama Laura” Mae Gross, a tireless champion of the blues and mentor to countless musicians. Discussion after the film with director Ramin Niami, with a post-screening reception and performance to follow off-site.
