Vietnamese International Film Festival April 4-7 and April 11-14

The 6th biennial Vietnamese International Film Festival (ViFF) will be taking place April 4-7 and April 11-14 at Edwards University Theater in Irvine, Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, UC Irvine and UCLA. Here’s more info from their directors:

ViFF has come a long way since its establishment in 2003. This year we showcase 69 films, including, at 18, a record number of features.  We are honored to have received a wide array of works from filmmakers all over the world, including Australia, Cambodia, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Poland, Singapore, Switzerland, Viet Nam, and the United States.

Flashback || Flashforward is the theme of ViFF 2013. ViFF is privileged to have witnessed the last decade of groundbreaking Vietnamese diasporic cinema, and anticipates a bright future of creative production. From the work of pioneering filmmakers such as Tran Anh Hung, Tony Bui, Timothy Linh Bui, and Charlie Nguyen, to a vibrant new generation of Vietnamese filmmakers from around the world, Vietnamese cinema has moved across geographical boundaries to reach a truly global audience. ViFF 2013 takes a moment to pause and reflect on the innovations that have made Vietnamese cinema what it is today.

In addition to the full 8-day program of film screenings, ViFF also offers special events, such as Open-mic Common Ground night. Senior Citizens Day and High School Day are free-admission to seniors and high school students, respectively. ViFF also creates networking opportunities by holding panel discussions on various aspects of filmmaking.
