(Update 04/16/13: Laura Mvula’s performance tonight April 15 at School Night at Bardot, hosted by KCRW‘s Chris Douridas, has been canceled and her show at the Bootleg Theater has been postponed to Wednesday, April 17. Doors at 7pm, Set time 9pm. If you bought a ticket, it will be honored on both Tuesday, April 16, for Mohammed Alidu AND Wednesday, April 17, for Laura Mvula. Here is the message I received from Fold Silverlake (Bootleg Theater):
Laura Mvula’s show has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 17th at 9pm.Tickets for the postponed Tuesday night show will be honored for both Tuesday night’s Mohammed Alidu performance (which is still occurring), as well as Laura Mvula’s Wednesday April 17th show. So now, in a sense, you get two nights for one!)
It started with a few emails with her demos to some producers while Laura Mvula was unhappy with her office day job, and ever since, it’s been a whirlwind fast rise for this chanteuse, who’s been quickly tapped as an artist to watch in 2013! Her marvelous unique blend of soul, gospel and jazz, has garnered her a nomination for the 2013 Brit Awards Critic’s Choice Award and with the release of her debut album Sing to the Moon on March 4, Laura Mvula is set to wow us here in Los Angeles at the Bootleg Theatre on Tuesday, April 16! Also, LA’s own Mohammed Alidu will be playing after Laura’s set at 10:30pm! Alidu is originally from Northern Ghana, born into the 1000-year Bizung lineage of talking drum chiefs, and has been involved with Playing for Change.
