I went to my first Holi Festival last year on Malibu Beach and what a colorfully chaotic, beautiful time!! It’s like being kids all over again and being allowed to get playfully dirty (not with mud but with dyes) and chasing each other around like grownup tag! So come celebrate the arrival of Spring the Hindu way! There’s an event every Saturday for the next 3 weekends! TIP: Obviously, wear something you don’t mind getting plastered with every imaginable color of dye, that may or may not come out completely and bring old towels to put over your car seats afterwards!
Saturday, March 9: Run or Dye 5K Color Run Los Angeles @ LA Exposition Park – $45 registration and $10 parking.
Saturday, March 23: Holi on the Beach @ Will Rogers State Beach – $10 by March 22, $15 after and group discounts available. This is the event I went to last year with a big group of friends and it’s put on by Association for India’s Development (AID) Los Angeles chapter. AID is a nonprofit that funds and directly works with NGO’s doing field work in India in various interconnected areas such as education, livelihoods, health, women’s empowerment, social justice and natural resources. You can pre-register here. It’s a beautiful stretch of Malibu beach with a DJ playing great music!
